It is often said that walking into our Rathskeller Bar or bowling alley feels like walking into a time capsule, and the trope fits. But we bet you didn’t know that there is an actual time capsule concealed behind the original 1911 cornerstone!
On September 10, 1911 a ceremony at the new Hermann Sons Home Association building drew a crowd of 1500 members who witnessed the cornerstone as it was laid in place. Within the cornerstone a copper box was placed containing a number of articles, including daily newspapers, souvenirs, emblems, and a document reviewing the history of the organization. President Paul Meerscheidt read aloud the history before placing it in the box.
The new building was formally dedicated in April 1912.
